It's sweltering hot today here in Oakville and probably most other parts of the Greater Toronto Area. I'm reallllly hoping everyone is staying hydrated and drinking lots of water. If you didn't get a chance to read my blog post called Keep Calm & Drink Water awhile back, check it out! In that post, I just had to share some of the many important reasons why you should be drinking lots of H2O throughout the day.
In case you didn't read it or you forgot, here's a quick refresher on dehydration. Simply put, dehydration means your body does not have as much water and fluids as it should. For many people, a feeling of thirst only becomes apparent after significant dehydration. Some signs of mild dehydration include the following: dry/sticky mouth, sleepiness/tiredness, thirst, decreased urine output, dry skin, headache, constipation and dizziness/lightheadedness.
Drinking lots of water regularly throughout the day, no matter what climate you live in, is so, so, so important. It is especially important in hotter climates, since you are sweating more and need to keep the fluid balanced in your body. I honestly can't stress this enough...if you aren't a big water drinker...this is one change you can make RIGHT NOW! Go get a glass and then continue reading. :)
Drinking water can be fun and delicious especially when you infuse your water with amazing fruits, veggies and/or herbs. I love doing this! It's just a simple, yummy, healthy way of adding some fun and colour to the water you drink. The combinations are endless and you can be as creative as your heart desires. And the best part is...the nutritional benefits of drinking infused water are amazing. And you know that no post written by yours truly is fully complete without listing the nutritional benefits of my recipes or food suggestions. Here are a few of the amazing reasons why drinking infused water is great for your health:
- detoxifying and flushes toxins from your body
- helps control boating
- boosts metabolism
- improves mood and energy levels
- keeps organs healthy and hydrated
infused water ingredient suggestions:
Fruits: Berries (Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries), citrust fruits (lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines), Melons (cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon), apples, pears
Veggies: carrots, celery, cucumber
Herbs/spices: Basil, CILANTRO, ginger, Mint, Parsley, rosemary
Now here's the fun part, going crazy infusing your water with whatever tastes your little tastebuds desire. It's very simple, just add your ingredients to a large pitcher, mason jar, glass or water bottle. Let it sit in the fridge or start drinking away. The longer the water is infused, the more the flavour comes out. You can add as much or as little of any fruit, veggie or herb.
Here are some suggestions but like I said, it's all about being creative, having fun and seeing what taste combinations you like. This list could on forever so keep in mind I just listed a few of the many combinations. ;)
